Quasilaur is my online persona. It came about in 1997, when I foolishly entered an IRC channel where everyone knows your name. That is to say, unlike all other chats and boards I had been on since 1996, this was the first one where not only did people know first AND last names of most people on the channel, but most of them had met in the flesh, too! I was unsure on how to proceed, and was certain that whoever I was online, I was not my whole self – I was only something partially resembling myself, I was quasi-Laura. Of course, on the IRC channel, my first nick chosen, quasilaura, got truncated to quasilaur. I have been known by “Q” and “quasilaur” ever since.
I’m a 30-something woman in Seattle, with a great interest in social justice and the arts. I’ve spent time as a social worker in a forensic setting, an administrative volunteer for 826 Seattle, a diving enthusiast with GirlDiver, and dreaming of one day being a real artist.
I love good coffee, great food, discussing sustainability, health, religious history, beer, art and what makes human beings tick. Stay tuned.
